A National Literacy Problem

Despite our best efforts, for 30 years national reading scores have shown little improvement (Graph 1). Research now shows that (Link) No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is not closing the achievement gap. Schools that use NCLB’s Five Essential Components of Reading Instruction, and provide systematic phonics, balanced and whole language approaches are not improving the reading abilities enough to help struggling readers (LINK To NYTimes PDF).

Too many students struggle to read at grade level, a level that falls far below proficient reading. The achievement gap grows with each passing year (Graph 2).  Schools fail to make annual yearly progress (AYP) and suffer the negative consequences of NCLB. Teaching reading used to be fun!

Welcome to the Sound Reading Solution to reading improvement. We provide easy-to-teach, comprehension reading interventions that will dramatically improve reading decoding, fluency and comprehension scores in as little as 30 hours — less than an hour a week!

Urgent Need for Reading Improvement

The research described by the National Reading Panel and NCLB is often ten or 15 years old. Exciting research in the last few years points to new ways of developing phonemic awareness, teaching phonics and decoding, developing fluency and improve reading comprehension. These methods are easy to teach and complement existing reading methods.

Sound Reading Solutions provides the most advanced research-based reading instruction delivered with easy-to-use materials that dramatically improve reading scores (LINK to research and results page). Our approach to reading improvement uses the most recent cognitive (link to cognitive learning) and language research.

Exciting New Methods Help You Succeed

The research has a common theme: Reading difficulties reflect subtle problems in the processing of spoken words. Understanding printed words requires a deep understanding of spoken words.  Until spoken language issues, including phonemic awareness, auditory discrimination and processing, naming and word retrieval, and language comprehension issues are addressed students will struggle with printed words.

The more complex the written words the deeper the necessity for understanding of spoken words — older students need a very deep sense of spoken words because they must decipher the world’s most difficult spoken and written major language — English.  Sound Reading Solutions helps students easily master the full range of speech and language skill necessary for fluent reading meaningful reading. In 30-hours of supplemental instruction students learn:
